Comal County Jail
Project Description
CES was retained to perform an evaluation of the structural foundation plans for the Comal County Jail Project to determine if an alternate plan could be created due to budget concerns. The Comal County Jail project, encompassing the design of the building’s structural systems and foundation. This facility was developed to address the county’s growing inmate population and to modernize its detention infrastructure. The project included the construction of a new 155,000-square-foot jail facility with a capacity of approximately 600 inmates, as well as the renovation of the existing jail to serve as administrative offices for the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.
CES proposed an alternative strategy using cutting edge patented slab-lifting technology, named SlabTek, which would reduce cost and labor. CES was retained to be the Structural engineer of record for the foundation. CES structural design ensured the facility met all necessary safety and performance standards while assisting in getting the project in budget while contributing to the successful completion of this critical public safety project.
